4 Must-Visit San Diego Bookstores

For many people, the start of a new year means new reading goals. Or, if you’re like me, your TBR (to be read) list is getting longer and longer. San Diego is chock full of literary shops that offer book lovers a fun place to do what they do best - peruse, explore, and get lost in books.

While there are numerous must-visit bookstores in San Diego, below are a few of my favorites!

Verbatim Books

Verbatim Books is the city’s largest independent bookstore. With book selling and trading opportunities, the North Park business primarily features gently used secondhand books in a range of genres. Additionally, Verbatim Books is involved in many community events such as the North Park Book Fair and the San Diego Book Crawl.

The Book Catapult

Nestled in the South Park neighborhood is The Book Catapult. The quaint shop hosts a monthly book club, literary chats (with coffee!), and open mic events among their vast selection of new and popular books.

Meet Cute

Located in La Mesa, Meet Cute will give you heart eyes. The queer- and woman-owned bookshop specializes in romance stories, with sub genres including historical, mysteries, graphic novels, and more. And bonus, Meet Cute has their own podcast featuring author chats!

Warwick’s

Warwick’s is a San Diego staple and happens to be the country’s oldest continuously family-owned and operated bookstore. Situated in the coastal community of La Jolla, Warwick’s has a large selection of genres and books, as well as gifts, jewelry, stationery, and art supplies.
