Five Ways to Stay Connected in Quarantine

Does anybody know what day of quarantine we’re on? Because I’ve officially lost count. Since early spring, our social interactions have decreased exponentially and remaining connected to friends and family has required a little more creativity. Just because we’ve all stopped in our tracks, doesn’t mean time has though. Life continues to move on and whether we can celebrate them or not, important moments are still happening. Birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, graduations, baby showers, all of these big events and celebrations still come and go, no matter if we’re still stuck inside and social distancing. That lack of commemoration can lead to feeling isolated and disconnected, so for today’s blog post, I’ve outlined five ways you can stay connected to people while remaining safe and adhering to social distancing rules.

Drive-by Parades

This seems to be a popular way to celebrate birthdays at the moment. You can drive by somebody’s house with signs, balloons, all sorts of decorations strapped to your car, and the more cars the better! It’s a safe way to social distance, while also seeing people. And who doesn’t love a parade all for them?

Virtual Happy Hours

Even though happy hours are a thing of the past now, you can still get together with your friends for a drink in a virtual happy hour! Pour yourself a glass of wine, open up Zoom, and catch up with your friends. This is also a helpful way for companies to check in on their employees and communicate any changes moving forward.

Writing Letters

This may seem like an outdated form of communication because sending a text is much quicker, but how good does it feel when you check your mail and amongst bills and junk, there’s a handwritten letter from your friend? It’s a simple, thoughtful way to show somebody you’re thinking about them.

Video Call Game Nights

This has been one of my favorite ways to stay connected to people during quarantine. I’ve been organizing virtual game nights with my family via video call on Facebook. We’ve been playing a lot of Disney BINGO and not only are we playing fun games, but having that chance to see and talk to each other gives us the opportunity to check in one how everybody is holding up.

Social Distancing Picnic

With the weather getting nicer, the idea of being stuck inside sounds even worse. But you can still safely meet up with friends with a social distancing picnic. Bring your own snacks, set up six feet apart, and enjoy! This was how I celebrated my birthday with one of my friends and it was great! You can also do a car picnic if there is no open space near you. Meet up in a parking lot, roll down your windows or sit in your hatchback, and picnic away!
