Seattle Sights: The Electric Boat Company

Most summer days when I’m on the bus back from work, I look out and see Lake Union filled with boats. It looked like a nice summer activity, cruising around the water and taking in the city from new perspectives. My experience on boats is fairly limited, but since last summer, I’ve wanted to get out on the water.

After a little research, I settled on pursuing The Electric Boat Company because of all that’s included with the experience and the reasonable price. The standard boats seat up to 10 people and includes seating with a stationary table, Bluetooth to play music, optional heating, and overhead coverage. There’s a two hour minimum for those boats at $125 per hour. Split that up between 10 people and it’s fairly affordable.

The booking process was fairly seamless. I knew we would just need a standard boat and I booked it enough in advance that I had plenty of time options. I paid a $50 deposit and didn’t have to pay the remaining balance till the day of boating.

While The Electric Boat Company provides extra amenities such as catering, we opted to bring our own drinks and snacks.

The check-in process was quick, with Andrew and I watching a short video about boat safety, rules of the waterway, and boat operation. We were then able to board our boat early and start our aquatic adventure.

We boated all around Lake Union, towards the Ballard Bridge, by Montlake, and around South Lake Union. We went past the Sleepless in Seattle house boat, saw plenty of paddle boarders, and watched a seaplane land. While there are boundaries for areas we couldn’t go (Montlake Cut, Ballard Locks), there was plenty of space for us to explore.

Overall, our boating experience was fun and exciting. It was a new experience for all of us and the whole process was clear and easy. If you’re looking for a fun outing with breathtaking views of Seattle, I highly recommend checking The Electric Boat Company out!
