National Redhead Day 2018
Today is National Redhead Day! One of my favorite days of the year! As a lifelong redhead, I grew up with people constantly making comments about my hair, people being able to easily find me in a crowd, and with the rise of social media, I’m constantly being tagged in articles about redheads. I once even attended an event to set the world record for the largest gathering of redheads!
To celebrate this holiday, I thought I would share some fun facts about redheads:
Only 2% of people in the world have red hair.
Bees are most attracted to redheads.
Redheads most commonly have brown eyes, with blue eyes being the least common (me!).
Redheads will most likely not go gray because the pigment just fades. So it’ll be blonde then white, not gray.
Emma Stone, who is known for her red hair, is actually blonde!
Even if parents don’t have red hair, then can have a child with red hair if they are both carriers of the mutated MC1R gene that affects pigmentation.
Redheads are most likely to be left-handed.
I have loved having red hair my whole life and I’m so thankful to have a physical trait that makes me stand out. It makes me unique and lets be honest, you don’t think Jordyn Berg and not think of red hair.
To my fellow red heads, enjoy our special day!
