Looking for a quick, one day trip? Or maybe you’re in need of a little change of scenery? If you’re based in San Diego, then thankfully, you have plenty of options that are just a short drive away!

Los Angeles

Distance from San Diego: 120 miles

LA is probably one of the most commonly taken day trips from San Diego. The popular city features plenty of activities that can fill up your day, including Griffith Park, the La Brea Tar Pits, swan boats at Echo Park, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), and much more. Roughly two hours north of San Diego (give or take some for inevitable traffic), LA offers plenty of fun-filled activities.

Julian

Distance from San Diego: 60 miles

While Southern California does not immediately evoke feelings of autumnal bliss , Julian is the perfect fall getaway. About an hour east of San Diego, the quaint and cozy town is known for their pie, with both Moms Pie House and Julian Pie Company drawing in visitors from far and wide.

Anza-Borrego desert State Park

Distance from San Diego: 73 miles

Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is the largest state park in California, offering endless exploration for those who travel northeast from San Diego. Nestled in the state park is Borrego Springs, a small town known for the large metal sculptures that resemble animals and creatures such as camels, a sea dragon, a scorpion, and more. You can’t miss these roadside attractions!

Joshua Tree national park

Those looking for a day of adventure will find what they’re looking for at Joshua Tree National Park. The park is often considered a bucket list location for travelers and locals, and features expansive views, great trails, and plenty of camping options. There are countless things to do in Joshua Tree, making it an ideal day trip.

Laguna Beach

And fun fact, their mayor is an adorable golden retriever named Mayor Max!

By far, my FAVORITE day trip to take! Disneyland is roughly an hour and a half north of San Diego in Anaheim, making it a very do-able drive. As we all know, the Happiest Place on Earth offers a full day (plus more) of fun. Since moving to San Diego, we have taken multiple trips up to the iconic theme park, to fit in a days worth of Disney magic.
