San Diego Sights: Seaport Village
We’re coming up on two years of living in San Diego and in that time period, we’ve really made it a point to explore the city. During our first year, Andrew and I lived in an apartment in the East Village neighborhood, which is considered part of downtown San Diego. We took advantage of how walkable the area is and one place we spent a lot of time walking to was Seaport Village.
The waterfront shopping and dining space opened in 1980 and offers so much of what makes San Diego great - stunning views, delicious food, and small, local businesses to support. Whenever people come to visit us, I always want to show them Seaport Village. It’s a fun, charming place to wander around, with plenty to enjoy.
My perfect day at Seaport Village starts at Spill the Beans with a coffee and the flavor of the month bagel. While enjoying those, I take in the boats at the marina and people watch. Nursing the last of my coffee, I love walking down to the Rady Shell, an open-air venue. The shape of the Rady Shell is large and curved, making it striking and unique. When a concert isn’t being set up for, you can wander around the open space and look out on the water. Walking back towards the main Seaport Village shopping and dining area, I like to meander around the shops and spend a little time watching the ducks in the duck ponds from the small pedestrian bridge. For lunch, I have ample options of casual dining spots to pick from, with background music from the nearby carousel. Afterwards, I can walk it all off by continuing down the waterfront and appreciate the views of San Diego Bay.
