Chocolate Peppermint Bark Recipe
The winter season is upon us and the holidays are right around the corner. For as long as I can remember, this time of year means baking, as my parents have filled up our dining room table with treats, desserts, and delicious concoctions to share with friends, family, and coworkers. As I developed a passion for baking, I started making my own treats and want to share a winter-themed recipe for chocolate peppermint bark with you all!
Previously, I made a similar dessert for Hanukkah, but tweaked it here slightly to make it a more general wintertime dessert that’s a smidge more cost effective. Similar recipes I’ve seen use crushed candy canes as a topping, but I prefer peppermint kisses as they’re softer. Still, it’s an easy-to-follow recipe with a handful of ingredients that everybody will love!
Chocolate Peppermint Bark
Saltines
2 sticks of butter
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 cup chocolate chips
Peppermint Hershey kisses
Sliced almonds
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Line a baking sheet with foil and arrange saltines to fully cover the sheet.
Melt the butter and brown sugar. Bring to a low boil for 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly.
Pour the butter mixture over the crackers and bake.
After 6 minutes, check to make sure mixture is not burning. Cook for another 3-4 minutes, until golden brown.
Remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over the crackers. Let sit for 2-3 minutes, then spread.
Chop up the peppermint Hershey kisses and sprinkle over chocolate, along with the sliced almonds.
Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. Break into smaller pieces, and enjoy!
For Hanukkah, you can substitute matzah for the saltines!
