At-Home Date Night Ideas

Well, while we finally said goodbye to 2020, we’re still dealing with one of the worst things the year threw our way: the COVID-19 pandemic. I’ve been taking the safety precautions and guideline seriously, which means that mine and Andrew’s weekly date nights have been happening at home and indoors since last March. Even though our activity options are few and far between, we’ve placed an importance on making our date nights enjoyable and and full of quality time together.

If the pandemic has put you and your partner in a funk or at a loss for how to still treat yourselves to date nights, below are a few ideas that will ensure that your time safely at home together is fun, special, and meaningful.

Classic Game Night

It’s very easy to get into a routine of spending hours on your phone, distracted by your screen. That doesn’t lend itself to significant connection. So there’s nothing better than having a technology-free evening with a good ‘ole fashion game night. Bust out your favorite games or tried-and-true classics for some fun time together.

Some of our go-to games include Guess Who (which I doctored up with characters from The Office), Battleship, Disney Codenames, and cards.

Trying New Recipes

A great way to spend time together is in the kitchen making food for and with each other. Bust out a cookbook and find a new recipe to cook!

If you want to take it a step further, make it a themed night! Put together an appetizer, entrée, and dessert that all fall under the same cuisine umbrella.

Movie Marathon

With movie theaters still closed, we personally have been deeply missing our favorite date night activity. To fill that void, movie marathons have become our substitute. Cozy up on your couch or bed, get yourself a bowl full of freshly popped popcorn, and hunker down for some cinematic fun!

Indoor Picnic

Seeing as we’re still in the winter season, outdoor activities are a bit harder to come by. One way to get around that obstacle is to bring the outdoors in. Order some takeout and set up a blanket in your living room for a picnic-like setting.

For Christmas, Andrew’s parents gifted us with miniature versions of lawn games, which have been great additions to indoor picnic evenings!

At-home date nights are a great way to spend quality time with your partner while also adhering to safety guidelines. As we’re still dealing with this pandemic, it’s on all of us to do our part to follow regulations and ensure the health and well-being of not only ourselves, but also those around us.
