Chocolate Drizzled Lemon Sugar Cookies Recipe

It’s the first day of summer! As the Seattle weather has been heating up, I’ve been getting more excited for what this next season will bring. One thing I’m looking forward to are some new recipes and foods that will be filling my cabinets, fridge, and belly!

I wanted to add a little something to a traditional sugar cookie and wanted to bake something that had a summery taste. I settled on adding lemon to the well known cookie, with an extra little touch at the end. The lemon zest isn’t too overwhelming and the drizzled chocolate adds a good amount of sweetness and pairing to the lemon flavor.

CHOCOLATE DRIZZLED LEMON SUGAR COOKIES

  • 2 3/4 cups flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1 cup softened butter

  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar

  • 1 egg

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 lemon

  • Chocolate chips

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In a small bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and baking powder.

  2. In a separate bowl, cream together sugar and butter until the consistency is smooth. Beat in egg and vanilla. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients.

  3. Zest a lemon into the bowl. (You will have the option of adding as much zest as you want. I went for a mild zesting so the lemon flavor wasn’t too overpowering.)

  4. Roll dough into small balls and place on a cookie sheet. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until cookies are lightly golden.

  5. After all the cookies have been cooked, melt chocolate chips and drizzle over cookies. Let cool and let the chocolate harden.
