Ten Holiday Happenings in Seattle
December is upon us and that means the holiday season has hit Seattle! I love the city around Christmas time, and I especially love all the events and activities that take place. So I put together a list of ten holiday events that will appeal to even Scrooge himself!
Enchant
Enchant took Seattle by storm last year and it’s back for 2019! The Christmas light maze also features a little market and ice-skating rink, making it the one-stop for all cute Christmas activities. The event will be held at T-Mobile Park till December 29.
The Nutcracker
The Nutcracker is synonymous with Christmas. The Pacific Northwest Ballet puts on the show every year at McCaw Hall and brings the festive performance to Seattle. The show runs till December 28.
Gingerbread Village
Every year, my parents and I spend some time in Seattle around the holidays to do festive activities. One of the things we always do is check out the Gingerbread Village that is usually located at the Sheraton Hotel. Each year has a theme (ex: Harry Potter, How the Grinch Stole Christmas) and we love seeing the talent and impressiveness of these creations. The Gingerbread Village stays up till January 1.
WildLights
One of my favorite activities to do around the holidays is visit Woodland Park Zoo for their WildLights festival. I always love the colorful displays and being able to see a few animals as well. Lights will be up through early January.
Christmas Improv
Last year, Andrew surprised me for our anniversary by taking me to a Christmas improv show. Unexpected Productions, located by Pike Place Market, puts on An Improvised Christmas Carol and I cannot sing the show’s praises enough. It was fun, goofy, and full of holiday spirit! You can catch a show on most nights in December.
SantaCon
A mass gathering of Santas? Nothing screams Christmas more than that! SantaCon, a seasonal pub crawl, will be held on December 14 and will provide participants with hours of entertainment, drink specials, and Christmas camaraderie. Venues that are participating this year include the Triple Door, Hard Rock Cafe, and Box House.
Pioneer Square Howlidays
On December 5, join in the canine fun by bringing your dog to the 7th Annual Pioneer Square Howlidays. The family and dog-friendly event provides free entertainment and activities, as well festive tunes and caricatures of you and your dog!
Festival of Trees
The Festival of Trees takes place at the Fairmont Olympic Hotel and is an event that raises money for the Seattle Children’s Hospital. The tree display is up till December 4 and guests can also visit the Teddy Bear Suite, where more than 100 bears are featured.
Westlake Carousel
Christmas in Seattle would not be the same to me without a ride on the holiday carousel at Westlake Center. The annual activity has a $3 suggest donation and is a great family-friendly holiday activity. The carousel runs through the holidays to January 1.
Winterfest
During the holidays, Seattle Center becomes a hub for festive activities with its Winterfest celebration. My parents and I have been going there to view the Winter Train and Village for years. Additional activities and events include the Winterfest Ice Rink, ice sculpting, and live performances. Winterfest will be featured at Seattle Center up till New Year’s Eve.
