February Favorites // 2018

Another month over, another month of favorites to blog about! It's been a little while since I've visited my blog, so I was so happy to finally get back to it. In February, there were quite a few things that I was loving and I'm very excited to share them with you in this blog post!

Hamilton

A couple years ago, Hamilton took more than just the Broadway world by storm. The musical based on the life and death of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, which was written and stars Lin-Manuel Miranda, dominated the Tony Awards in 2016 and found it's cast album topping the charts.

When I found out that the touring cast of Hamilton would be making a month-long stop in Seattle, I knew I had to get tickets. Thanks to a pre-sale code and a surprising amount of patience, I was able to get tickets for my parents and I at a reasonable price. So on a brisk Sunday afternoon, we made our way to Seattle for our day of culture.

I had high expectations going into the show and I have to say, Hamilton lived up to every single one. The music was unbelievably catchy, the production value was incredibly impressive, and the emotion evoked from each performer was powerful. I walked out of the show feeling so fulfilled and wishing all of the following shows weren't sold out so I could see Hamilton again.

Seattle Symphony

Back in January, my mom and I bought tickets to a show called Broadway Today at Benaroya Hall featuring the Seattle Symphony. That was my first time to that venue and also my first time being in the presence of the Seattle Symphony. I was beyond impressed by their talent so I was incredibly excited to go see them again as they performed the original score from La La Land (a favorite of mine), accompanied by the film. I had been looking forward to this show so much and was excited to see the music I loved so much performed live.

I found that during the show, my eyes kept straying from the film and I started watching individuals from the Symphony performing the songs. Songs that had graced the radio in my car were now being performed right in front of my eyes.  It all added an extra beautiful element to an already beautiful film.

Olympics

U-S-A, all the way! Olympic season is always an exciting time and while I'm more of a summer games girl, I was very excited to see talented athletes from all over the world come together to compete. It's a little crazy to think back to the last time the Olympics were on. I was in college and would fall asleep on the couch in my apartment watching events, waking up early in the morning to see a new sport being highlighted.
